Work to connect Konkan Railway with Jaigarh port to commence March 25

Construction work to connect Konkan Railway to the nearby port of Jaigarh will get a kickstart on March 25 (Saturday).

The 33.7 km long rail connectivity project will have its foundation stone laid by Union Minister for Transport and Ports Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

A rail line will be built from Jaigarh Port to Digni near KR’s Ratnagiri station. It will involve constructing six tunnels with a total length of 18.8 km.

Officials in both the state and the central governments are happy about the project, as it will boost income for the Konkan Railway and also indirectly help the state.

Immediately after completion, the line can handle as much as 12 million tonnes per annum of cargo from the port to KR. Jaigarh Port. Plans are on to up the capacity to 65 million tonnes per year by 2020.
