National Aluminium Company (NALCO) is mulling options to set up a 150 Mw capacity wind power plant in Odisha, at an investment of Rs 900 crore.
The state-owned aluminium major’s chairman and managing director, T K Chand, said, “We are interested in both wind energy and solar power plants in the state. Given the necessary incentives and facilities, Nalco would proceed on these plans.”
He added: “We have requested the Odisha government to provide land and other clearances for the green power projects.”
On Saturday, Union Power and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal has inaugurated four wind power plants built by NALCO. He also annuonced an expansion plan for the aluminium major to raise its capacity to 1 MTPA.
Dedicating the facilities to the nation, he said, “We are taking concrete steps to increase production of NALCO. There is a major expansion programme to raise its capacity to 1 million tonne per annum.”
