Land acquisition nears completion for Orvakal airport in AP

In the next 12 to 18 months, the proposed greenfield airport of Orvakal near Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh will become a reality, as land acquistion is nearing completion and work is expected to start very soon.

Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary, Infrastructure and Energy, was quoted as saying by BusinessLine, “Ninety-five per cent of the land acquisition for the airport project has been completed and works are likely to commence within a week.

Of the 900 acres, more than 700 acres belongs to the government and the rest is also expected to be acquired soon.”

He added: “The project is being implemented by the government itself as the invitation for private sector participation did not receive good response as they do not see this segment profitable.”
