Indian govt plans more SEZs

Eyeing to give nod for more special economic zones (SEZs), the central government is today (March 8) considering five new proposals to set up for SEZs.

The proposals that are being considered by the commerce ministry were submitted by developers including Oracle India, Modern Asset and L&T Construction Equipment.

All the three have proposed to start IT and ITeS special economic zones (SEZs) in the southern state of Karnataka.

The proposals are being considered at the meeting of the Board of Approval (BoA), headed by Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia.

In 2015-16, exports from specal economic zones in the country touched Rs 4.67 lakh crore, a marginal growth of 0.77 per cent.
