Grundfos to set up assembly plant in Ahmedabad

In a bid to get closer to its customers in Gujarat and Maharashtra, Grundfos Pumps India is starting an assembly plant in Ahmedabad.

With Gujarat and Maharashtra being two big markets in the western region, the move is aimed at cutting down on logistics cost and gaining by reducing inventories.

This will be the third plant for the wholly-owned subsidiary of the Danish major. The facility is set to begin operations on June 1.

The company’s managing director N K Ranganath said, “We want to do more in the West… want to replicate what we have been doing in Chennai.”

He added: “At present stainless steel castings sourced from Gujarat were brought to Chennai, where they get converted into products before being sent to the western region markets. With the plant, there could be a reduction of four days of inventory and 2-3 days’ lead time.”
