GE acquires order to upgrade Hindalco’s captive power plant in UP

GE has announced signing an agreement with Hindalco Industries to upgrade aluminium rolling company’s generation equipment at its Renusagar captive power plant in Uttar Pradesh.

In a statement, the power solutions provider said it will modernise two steam turbines at the captive power plant targeting turbine output increase of up to 4 MW each–improving the efficiency of the plant and extending the life of the units by around 20 years.

GE Power India Managing Director Ashok Ganesan said, “Reducing the cost of power generation is relevant for an aluminium company like Hindalco. The upgrades will not only improve the efficiency of the turbines but will also lower the cost of production and improve reliability and availability at the plan.”

The modernisations will help increase the plant’s efficiency by up to six percent and reduce the cost of power generation by around USD 15 million over five years.
