CUMI commissions 3 plants in Cochin

Carborundum Universal has announced the inauguration of three new fusion plants, set up at an outlay of Rs 80 crore, in Cochin.

In the presence of Murugappa Group’s Executive Chairman A Vellayan, Cochin Special Economic Zone Development Commissioner, AN Shafeena formally inaugurated the three units.

Carborundum Universal is a member of the diversified business conglomerate Murugappa Group.

In a statement, Vellayan said, “the new units, a Zirconia Bubble Fusion Plant and two Alumnia Fusion Plants at the CUMI’s Electromineral Complex set up at an investment of Rs 80 crore would ramp up capacity by 25,000 fused minerals.”

“I congratulate the team at Electro Minerals division in CUMI who have been in the forefront of technology and innovation, with several patents to their credit,” he said.

“The new facilities estimated at a cost of Rs 80 crore is funded through internal accruals. The units, at full capacity will add about 25,000 tonnes of fused minerals generation with potential sales of about USD 30 million,” he stated.
