The state government of Bengal is planning to set up an incubation centre for cutting-edge electronic hardware in areas such as aerospace, defence, medical electronics and mobile devices.
According to a report in The Telegraph, the proposed electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) incubation centre in the state will be in collaboration with the Centre, and it will provide initial support to small and medium electronic hardware manufacturers.
It said representatives of the state IT and electronics department have started talks with the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) and the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) of the central government.
“We already have several incubation centres for tech start-ups but none for the ones in the hardware sector which is why the state has come up with this idea for the first time,” the report quoted sources as saying.
