The Central government’s Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion has said during January 2017, 137 Industrial Entrepreneurs Memoranda (IEMs) had been filed with proposed investment of Rs 29,119 crore, as against 174 IEMs with Rs 27,183 crore during January 2016.
Statistics uploaded on the department’s website said of these proposals, Gujarat is leading with proposed investment of Rs 13871 crore, Karnataka with Rs 6243 crore and Maharashtra with Rs 2587 crore.
Investment intentions reflect preference for Metallurgical industries, Electricals equipment , Miscellaneous mechanical & Engineering Industries with proposed investment of Rs 12108 crore (41.58%), Rs 8531crore (29.30%) and Rs 1260 crore ( 4.33%) respectively.
Since the inception of filing of IEM in 1991 till the end of January 2017, a total of 11958 IEMs with an investment of Rs 745481 crore have reported implementation.
As a measure of simplification of procedures, the Department is granting Industrial Licences directly since November, 2003, for all applications, except for those items which were exclusively reserved for Small Scale Industries.
