Uttarakhand, IIP to ink pact for making bio fuel

The state government of Uttarakhand and the Indian Institute of Petroleum will soon sign MoU to make bio fuel and turpentine oil from ‘Perule’ (pine needles).

In a statement, the Uttarakhand government said the centre for collecting pine needles (Perule) would be set in the state’s eight hilly districts- Almora, Chamoli, Nainital, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Tehri and Uttarkashi. Incentives would be also given to locals engaged for collecting the Perule.

The government is also under plan to use modern technologies for it. Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said the government also aims to control forest fires during summer with the help of this particular initiative.

The CM further said initially about 40 tones pine needles would be required. It would be purchased from the village panchayats. He hoped the initiative would help generate employment also.
