Telangana seeks Rs 806 crore from Union govt for Mega Textile Parks

Telangana Textiles and Handlooms Minister K T Rama Rao has submitted representations to Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani, seeking the Centre’s support for Comprehensive Powerloom Cluster Development Scheme (CPCDS).

Besides requesting sanction for a Mega Powerloom Cluster at Sircilla under CPCDS, the Minister also sought financial assistance of Rs 806.81 crore for setting up Kakatiya Mega Textile Park (KMTP) at Warangal.

During his meeting with the Union Minister, Rama Rao explained that the State government conducted geo-tagging of powerlooms in Telangana State and discovered the presence of around 35,566 powerlooms across the State.

Of this, about 25,595 powerlooms are existing in Rajanna Sircilla district alone, he said and added that the State government was keen to establish the Mega Powerloom Cluster under CPCDS.

The State Minister said the State government was working with a unique intention for setting up a Weaving Park under Worker to Entrepreneur Scheme, Apparel Park and also restart the Common Facility Centre at the existing Textile Park in Sircilla, to achieve speedy results and generate employment to unemployed youth.
