Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal has requested Union Minister of State for Mine and Steel Visnu Deo Sai to set up a production unit of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) in the state to meet the increasing demand of steel in the region.
A state government press release said the CM informed the Union minister that there was ample underground reserve of steel alloy in the state and the raw material for the SAIL plant could be sourced from within the state to meet the infrastructure boom.
He also urged Sai to ensure completion of the construction work of the steel production unit at Dalgaon in Kamrup Rural District and make it operational at the earliest to meet the huge steel requirement of the booming infrastructure and communication sector of the region.
“All efforts were being made to simplify the process of obtaining clearances for setting up businesses and government is fast- tracking the allotment of land to the investors for rapid industrial growth in the state,” the CM was quoted as saying.
