Railways, Shipping Ministers ink pact for Rs 8,500 crore rail line

Union shipping and railway ministries along with Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra governments have signed a pact to implement around Rs 90 billion Indore-Manmad rail project.

Speaking to reporters, Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari said, “We are starting a very big railway project from Indore to Manmad. Indore is a commercial hub and from here the containers by using Central railways will come to Manmad and from Manmad they will go to JNPT.”

He also said the tribal sectors of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, he said, will benefit from the railway line which will cost around Rs 90 billion.

The 362 km line will pass through the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor’s nodes – Igatpuri, Nashik and Sinnar; Pune and Khed; and Dhule and Nardana.

Gadkari added: “Instead of going via Gujarat, we will use central railway line to reach Manmad. This will help us to develop backward areas of MP.”
