Technotex-2017, an International Exhibition & Conference on Technical Textiles, will be jointly organised by the Ministry of Textiles and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in Mumbai from April 12 to 14.
This is the sixth such fair, said union minister Smriti Irani, while replying to a question in Parliament.
She said: “Technology Mission on Technical Textile (TMTT) was launched by the Textiles Ministry on 15.12.2010 for a period of five years (from 2010-11 to 2014-15), to increase the involvement of user institutions, development of indigenous products specially fibres, development of standards, focus on research and development and encouragement of Joint Ventures (JVs) and attracting investment in manufacturing technical textiles machinery. The scheme was extended for a period of two years (up to 2016-17).”
On manpower shortage, she said, “This Ministry has no specific information regarding shortage of manpower in the Technical Textile Industries. However, eight Center of Excellences (CoEs) have been established and CoEs have been facilitating for training of manpower in technical textile industry.”
“Further, with a view to address the skilled manpower needs of the textile sector, the Ministry of Textiles is implementing Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) during the 12th Plan with a target to train 15 lakh persons. The scheme covers all segments of textile sector including Technical Textiles,” she added.
