The Corporation of Madurai is planning to lay roads covering a length of 52.24 km at an estimated cost of Rs 25.59 crore. Out of the 52 kms, paver block roads would be laid for 9.88 kms.

Quoting officials of the civic body, a TOI report said the road works would be carried out in five phases covering all its four zones under the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Fund (Turif).

An official reportedly said: “Bus routes in the important areas of the city are being covered mostly under the project. Once the works are completed, the problems faced by people will reduce.”

Already, tenders for the five separate packages had been floated and were in the process of being awarded to contractors. Meanwhile, the corporation is also planning to relay some of the damaged roads and do patch works simultaneously.
