Lenskart is expected to set up soon an eyeglass frame unit at Manesar in Haryana. The manufacturing capacity will be 50,000 – 60,000 untis per month initially.
The facility is expected to become operational by the middle of 2019.
Currently, the company has lens cutting and fitting unit in India and the frames are sourced from China and has a sales of around 2 lakh eyeglasses per month.
According to Himanshu Kishore, Vice- President – Retail Operations, North, the company was working on a new platform where customers can purchase eyewear using their basic feature phones.
“After studying the markets, especially tier-II and tier-III, we came to know that the penetration of internet is still cause of concern. In the absence of internet, it is difficult for the customers to purchase eyewearthrough our app or online. So, we are planning to introduce SMS-based platform which is currently in testing stage,” he said.
