The Union government has granted environmental clearance (EC) to the proposed expansion of JSW’s integrated steel plant.
The plant, which will seek expansion of one million tpa to 1.3 million tpa, will come up at Mettur in Salem district of Tamil Nadu. The project will spread over an area of 11.74 ha.
The environmental clearance has been accorded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
The company has also planned expansion of additional 1×30 MW using the WHR boilers of COP and BF gas. The ore required for the steel plant will be procured by importing through rail. The plant will generate 97 MW of power after expansion.
At present, it has manpower of 5,041 employees and 4,000 contractual employees. The project will entail an investment of Rs 1,025 crore and is expected to be completed in 36 months.
