Navin Jindal-owned Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) is planning to set up a two-million-tonne cement plant near its steel plant at Angul in Odisha.
Estimated to cost about Rs 5 billion, the project will come up within an industrial park being promoted by the company in the area.
According to a Business Standard report, the company will use granulated slag, a by-product of the steel unit, as feed stock for the cement plant.
It quoted a senior official of the company as saying: “With the expansion of the steel making capability to six million tonnes, we are now producing enough granulated slag to sustain a cement unit of two-million-tonne capacity.”
He added: Granulated slag being in high demand, we are now selling it to different cement manufacturers and also exporting the product to Nepal.
