Hyundai planning to make EVs at Chennai facility, up capacity to 750,000 units

India’s second largest car maker Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMI) is planning to increase the capacity of its Chennai plant by 37,000 units to 750,000 units.

The Indian subsidiary of Korean automaker Hyundai Motor is functioning from Sriperumbudur a religious and industrial town on the outskirts of Chennai.

According to Hyundai Motor India MD & CEO Y K Koo, the plant is gearing up to produce electric vehicles in India.

He further said the company would strengthen its offerings with eight new products, including an electric SUV, between 2018 and 2020.
