A hybrid power plant that could produce electricity simultaneously from wind and solar will come up on the Ramakkalmedu hills.
The first phase of the Rs. 55 crore project could be completed next year, a report in The Hindu said, quoting an Anert official. It was a project under the initiative of Electricity Minister M M Mani and an amount of Rs. 15 crore has been earmarked for the completion of its first phase, said the report further.
It is to be noted that Ramakkalmedu is gifted with continuous wind in addition to the sunlight, the two things which are favourable to set up solar panels.
A report has been submitted after a Chennai-based company made a feasibility study at Ramakkalmedu, said the report, adding that the technical assistance to it will be given by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and the equipment for the hybrid power plant would be developed in the country with the support of C-DAC.
