The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) in Karnataka has speedened up the work to set up two compost plants with a combined capacity of 450 TPD.
While a 300 TPD capacity plant will come up in Hubballi, a 150 TPD capacity plant will be constructed in Dharwad.
As per a report in TOI, the twin cities generate 400 tonnes of solid waste per day. “The waste processed by way of vermi-composting is 100 tonnes per year. The quantity of solid waste disposed at the dump site is 360 TPD. To address municipal solid waste management, it is establishing mechanical waste treatment and disposal facilities for treating mixed waste,” the report added.
The Hubballi facility will be constructed beside the Karwar Road, while a 150 TPD plant will be constructed at Lakkamanhalli (Hosayallapura) in Dharwad.
