With the government pushing for only electric vehicles to ply on India’s roads by 2030 as part of its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions under the global agreement on climate change, auto makers are focussing more on the segment.
As part of this, Honda Motor Co Ltd is planning to set up a lithium ion battery manufacturing unit in India.
The Japanese car maker is planning to do this as it seeks to tap the emerging, potentially lucrative electric vehicle opportunity in the country.
According to a report in livemint.com, these initiatives were discussed at a Honda India board meeting recently and a decision is imminent.
The firm is also actively involved in devising Honda’s electric vehicle strategy for the Indian market, added the report.
