Exide Industries Ltd has commenced operations to make its Haldia facility into one of the biggest battery-making centers in South-East Asia.
The plan by India’s largest automotive battery maker is to make everything from recycled lead to finished products.
Exide has laid the foundation stone for two greenfield projects in Haldia, which are likely to entail an investment of close to Rs 5.5 billion.
According to Exide MD and CEO Gautam Chatterjee, “We are embarking on a two-pronged strategy to make West Bengal’s port city of Haldia one of the largest and integrated self-sufficient battery-making centers in South-East Asia, where we manufacture everything from recycled lead to finished battery.”
