Centre, WB govt join hands for port project

The Union government-owned Kolkata Port Trust and the State government of West Bengal will partner to build a new major port at Tajpur in the state’s West Midnapore district with private funds.

Bhor Sagar Port Ltd, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) originally formed by the Central government-owned Kolkata Port Trust and the State government to build a new major port at Sagar Island, will develop the project.

In the SPV, the former holds 74 per cent shares and the latter 26 per cent.

Recently, Bhor Sagar Port Ltd sought bids from consulting firms to write a techno-economic feasibility report (TEFR), detailed project report (DPR), environment impact assessment and environment management plan (EIA & EMP) as well as to prepare bid documents for developing a deep-sea port at Tajpur.
