Now that works on the first set of smart cities gaining momentum, the union government is getting for the second.
Reports said the Urban Development Ministry will announce by June-end the next set of 40 cities for central funding under the Narendra Modi government’s flagship scheme–Smart City Mission.
So far, 60 cities have been selected for the scheme and the remaining 40 cities would be announced by June end, an official told PTI.
A smart city is an urban development vision to integrate information and communication technology (ICT) and Internet of things (IoT) technology in a secure fashion to manage a city’s assets. These assets include local departments’ information systems, schools, libraries, transportation systems, hospitals, power plants, water supply networks, waste management, law enforcement, and other community services.
