Centre to fund upgradation for Kakinada Anchorage Port

Under the Sagarmala programme, the Union government will fund the upgradation and modernisation of the Kakinada Anchorage Port – currently run by the Andhra Pradesh Government.

Quoting a Shipping Ministry official, a report in BusinessLine said, “Sagarmala Development Company Limited has called for bids from consultancy firms to write a detailed project report to upgrade and modernise the facilities at the Kakinada Anchorage Port.”

The Centre has decided to fund the upgradation of Kakinada port after efforts to build a port at Dugarajapatnam in Andhra’s Nellore district did not materialise.

It is to be noted that Kakinada is expected to emerge a key industrial zone with the State government drawing up ambitious plans to develop the Visakhapatnam-Kakinada Industrial Corridor.
