Centre approves 15 projects worth Rs 1,000 crore to upgrade ordnance factories

The Union government has approved 15 projects worth Rs 1,000 crore to upgrade and modernise ordnance factories across the country.

A TOI report quoted secretary of the department of defence production Ajay Kumar as saying: “We have cleared all proposals recently regarding modernisation in terms of machine procurement, new infrastructure projects, among others, of various ordnance factories. This is the highest amount approved by the government in the last four years.”

Ajay Kumar recently inaugurated the Acoustic Tank Test Facility at the Visakhapatnam Unit of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).

BDL is a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence and the test facility is one of its kind world class test facility used for testing underwater weapons like Torpedoes, Mines, Sonobuoys, Decoys and other related systems.

The acoustics systems of the underwater weapons are required to be tested and calibrated in water environment prior to their deployment in the actual sea waters. The new on-site test facility enhances the manufacturing capabilities manifold and opens up opportunities for handling multiple projects simultaneously.
