39 projects worth Rs 20,535 crore under implementation at 12 ports

A shipping ministry official has claimed that 39 projects worth Rs 20,535 crore are under implementation to augment the capacity of 12 major ports.

Quoting the official, a PTI report said, “these are part of 112 port capacity expansion projects, involving total investment of Rs 69,636 crore, that have been planned to increase port capacity to 3,500 million tonne per annum (mtpa) to cater to the projected traffic of 2,500 mtpa by 2025.”

According to the official, while 15 projects worth Rs 6,920 crore have already been completed, 11 projects entailing an investment of Rs 5,485 crore are under tender process.

The twelve major ports in India are Kandla, Mumbai, JNPT, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Ennore, V O Chidambaranar, Visakhapatnam, Paradip and Kolkata.
